As I am a swim coach and train Ironman triathletes…I thought I should start adding some posts on swimming.
1) Swimming has changed dramatically over the last few years (we’re talking 3-5 years).
2) Swimming is not only the technique of the stroke but the organization of the nervous system, balance, body position, and rhythm in the aquatic environment. Tons of people have a difficult time doing balance/rhythmic activities on land…just imagine magnifying that by 100!
First Tip:
You need to be concious of what the water is doing over your body at all times. How does it feel on your core? What motion is it making? Is it the same everytime you swim? Is it the same on the surface as is at the bottow of the pool? This is a key in developing a high quality swim. Also, there is no exact right answer. Everyone’s body and experiences are different and thus leading to different answers of feeling and awareness.
